Witcher 2 Runs Poorly, Shouldn't

Postby Fenrir » Thu Sep 15, 2016 2:32 pm

I imagine all or most of you here have played witcher 2 enhanced edition on PC, yeah? For me, and from what I've read, it seems to have some issue running. I've checked the recommended specs on the game page, and mine seem to go well above those, yet the game slows even on the lowest settings. I've tried a few fix suggestions, but none seem to be working. So, have any of you had this problem with this game specifically, and what did you do to fix it?

What are your specs, Fen, and what have you tried? Also, what OS are you using and is it the Steam or GOG version?

NVIDIA GeForce 610, AMD QuadCore, 8gb memory, DirectX 11. Steam version.

Tried setting every setting as low as it can go, updated all my drivers, used a patch to allow it to use more memory, even dropped that dx9 DLL thing in there. I'm getting the feeling Steam's recommended specs aren't quite accurate.

Windows 7. Home Premium, if that makes a difference.

I hate to suggest this, because I'm not thrilled with letting hardware manufacturers load services on start, but have you tried the recommended Witcher 2 GE experience settings from NVIDIA?

Yep, I have their GEForce ~experience~ program and that doesn't help. I have every possible setting I can alter as low as it goes, and the game still has a miserable frame rate.

So it turns out the game puts a limit or something on how much memory it can access, and that limit is obscenely low. I'm just giving it most of my RAM and it's playable.

I was going to suggest you run it in admin mode, Fen, but it probably won't do much of anything if your version of Windows is 32-bit.

Does the 4GB patch work on Witcher files?

If I understand correctly, Windows 7 Home Premium came in 32 and 64-bit.

32-bit OS can't "see" more than 4GB of RAM. In addition, 32-bit programs can't see more than that, either. Does Witcher 2 come as a 32-bit program or 64-bit? For some 32-bit programs, when run on a 64-bit OS, you can use the 4GB patch to help expand the memory usage past 4GB, but I have no idea how it works. I just know you actually run the patch on the .exe
