Question about links

Postby Leonardo » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:10 pm

I've a question about links and I wonder why a link always opened in the same tab as you were when you click on it. Is there anything that I can change in my profile to let the links to be opened in a new tab? :chinscratch:

No, it's a board thing. I haven't changed it because it requires modifying code. So, for now, you'll just have to manually open links in new windows. Maybe after things settle down here I'll see about changing it so that links open up in new windows instead of using the same window. Aside from code changes, it'll require that all existing links be modified so they'll open up in a new window.

If you use Firefox for a browser and have a three-button mouse (or a two button mouse with a clickable scroll wheel), then you can use the third button to open a link a tab, immediately. Right-clicking a link should work too, but the menu that pops up will cost you an extra click.

I prefer a new tab myself, but I never seem to remember to do that when I'm interested of following a link. It's like "Ach! :frustrated: I coulda hada V8!

New tabs/windows for links are in the books, but we're dealing with a family illness right now so any board work that doesn't involve something being broken will have to wait.

CTRL-LeftClick works for me on every link I tested here on the Wolflore Forums

I second that as working. I use Chrome.

I use firefox version 7.0.1, and right clicking and telling it to open in a new tab works for me.
Why? I like big ones, that's why.

Jac and I use Opera; it has is a right-click context menu for links that gives you the option of opening in a new [active] tab, a new background tab, a new [active] window or a new background window.

Personally, I like having the options, but I can understand why it would be nice for people to have the automatic click and new tab feature. I used to hate sites that would do that, because the new window always stole the focus, but I think that's not such an issue anymore.

We might want to discuss this again before Jac goes messing with code, since it appears most browsers have a way of doing the same thing by choice.
