Even using compatability mode doesnt help.
So you have to use Gimp or Photoshop, or something to save DDS files.
I myself have been using photoshop, but its fiddly and takes too long.
So i am always looking for something simple and fast like DDS Converter.
I have now found such a prog and its free.
Its basically similar to DDS Converter, in that it just runs from the folder you put it in,
anywhere on your PC
Instead of starting photoshop and waiting for ages for it to start and get ready,
you just use this prog and in 2 or 3 secs you save as DDS,
So happy to have found this, as i have been doing stuff as BMP and TGA,
when i would much rather do it as DDS.
Heres what the read me says.
x2y is a simple image converter which supports converting multiple images to a new format. This program allows you to convert images in just 4 easy steps.
First, add any images you want to convert to the list. The add images button allows you to add multiple images at the same time. The add directory button adds all the images in the directory you select. Note: It doesn't add images from subdirectories.
Next, select a directory to save the images to. If you would like, you can save the images in their original directory instead. Click the checkbox for "Save in original directory."
Thirdly, select a format to convert to and select any options. The options menu allows you to set various options, such as the quality of jpeg images, whether or not pngs are interlaced, whether or not certain formats use compression, and if x2y should be allowed to overwrite existing images.
Finally click the "Convert!" button. All your images will (hopefully) be converted to the selected format. It was easy, wasn't it?
